Titled ‘Tenacity’, this artwork features seven ‘Hills Hoists’ spread across level one of the center decorated to reflect a Chinese garden, paying homage to the origins of the Lunar New Year being a celebration of spring and harvest. Tenacity explores the idea of an Australian Lunar New year.
The hills hoists; a symbolic representation of Australian culture and ingenuity, decorated with a variety of flowers, filial memories and Chinese ‘Red Pockets’.
We encourage you to take a ‘Red Pocket’ from the installation, read the message of well-wishing within and to write one to be left for another to read.
The artwork takes inspiration from the ‘Tenacity’ and determination often associated with the Ox, and references the pandemic with the new year marking the beginning of a new chapter.
